Schrader Wins Twice at Volusia
Ken Schrader opened the DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park (Barbereville, Fla.) on Monday evening. Qualifying third in time trials, Ken slid back to a seventh-place finish.
On Tuesday night, he enjoyed a much better outing. In fact, Schrader visited Victory Lane with his Federated Auto Parts No. 9 Modified. He swept his prelim program by setting fast time and then scoring the feature victory over Zeke McKenzie, Will Krup, Ray Bollinger, and Scott Ladner.
Meanwhile, Wednesday's program found Ken recording a ninth-place finish in his 20-lap prelim feature.
On Thursday Ken started second in the feature and charged to the victory, which came over Shannon Fisk, Justin Allgaier, Curt Spalding, and Evan Taylor.
Friday's action saw Ken qualifying 16th fastest in his group to earn the sixth-starting spot for his respective Gator Championship, 20-lap qualifying feature. He registered a fifth-place finish in the finale behind Tyler Nicely, Michael Long, Mitch Thomas, and Brian Ruhlman.
Via Schrader's performance on Friday he was relegated to a B-Main on Saturday, where a fourth-place finish left him short of qualifying for the 30-lap finale. However, based on his points from the week he was awarded a provisional to start 35th in the $5,000-to-win finale. He ultimately retired early from the event to a 34th-place finish.
