Director of Competition
Donnie Richeson started racing in his teens in and around his hometown of Owensboro, Kentucky. Since the early 1980s, Richeson has been employed in the motorsports industry. He has worked with some of the sport’s top teams, including the late Alan Kulwicki, Gary Nelson at Sabco with driver Kyle Petty, Kenny Bernstein and driver Brett Bodine, and Jeff Burton. He lead the Cicci–Welliver Racing team in the then NASCAR Busch Series for five seasons, with five different drivers and was a contender for the championship in 2000 with driver Todd Bodine.
Richeson joined Ken Schrader Racing, Inc. in 2003 and was instrumental in moving the team from its original Windy Road location to its current Stough Road location in Concord, North Carolina in 2004.
Richeson will lead the Ken Schrader Racing, Inc. teams for the 14th consecutive season this year. He has served as crew chief in five different series at KSR, Inc. – the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, The Grand National West Series, The Southwest Series, The K & N East Series and the ARCA Series Presented By Menards. To date, Richeson has 16 wins to his credit with the team – in both the NASCAR and ARCA arenas.
For the 2017 season, Richeson will serve as crew chief for Austin Theriault, a young driver from Maine. Theriault comes to the KSR team with experience not only in NASCAR competition within its Truck, Xfinity and K & N Series, but also has an ARCA win to his credit. Richeson will be calling the shots from pit road for Theriault. As a veteran crew chief in the ARCA series, Richeson is excited with the testing results from Daytona earlier this year.
“Going into the 2017 season, the team is excited about the potential here at KSR. We have a great car and engine package, and an updated chassis for this year. Austin brings with him more racing experience than most drivers his age. He knows how to handle the car and is a natural behind the wheel. I am impressed with his maturity and am really looking forward to seeing what he can do with the cars we’ve prepared for him.”
Richeson will lead a team of seasoned crewmen for KSR, Inc. -- Phillip Drye, Jimmy Fallon, Bill Fife, Heath Gleaton, Michael Murphy and Steve Scharr.
