Martinsville Advance -- Fan Questions Answered

Ken Schrader:  Any place that you can run good and are capable of running in the top-ten you’ve got a chance to make it real good day.

Ken Schrader - #21 Little Debbie Ford Fusion – answers his fans’ questions this week about Martinsville, Larry the Cable Guy and rain delays.

With the decent runs you have been having at Martinsville what do you think your chances will be at getting a victory?  “Definitely.  Any place that you can run good and are capable of running in the top-ten you’ve got a chance to make it real good day.  It has been a real good place for us and the 21 ran real good there last year.  So, yeah we are definitely looking forward to going there next week.”

Will you be taking the same chassis to Martinsville that ran so well in the fall last year for the Wood Brothers?  “Yes.”

If Fusion runs well at Martinsville will the same chassis work at New Hampshire?  “Maybe.  You’ve got a little more speed at New Hampshire.  We’ve got two or three cars that fit well into that New Hampshire/Martinsville type of track.  We don’t know which one we’ll be taking to Loudon this summer, but yes, you could very well use the same car.”

Kenny I was just wondering why you’ve had such great success at the short tracks in recent years.  It seems like every time you head to Bristol or Martinsville, you have a chance at a top 5 or top 10. Did you just have good equipment for these tracks last year or do you think your driving style suits them more than the 1.5 mile cookie cutters?  “I think we just had a better chassis combination and that we really had a handle on those particular races last year.  But, we had some good stuff for the cookie cutter tracks last year too.  We just seemed to be short on some of what was necessary to make it all work right for the bigger tracks.  I think it was easier for us to get going at the short tracks.”

Is the transition of switching from Dodge to Ford going well for you and Hyder? Is there really that much difference between the car makes?  “There is not as much difference between the bodies in NASCAR race car configuration because of some of the common templates.  But, I have to say that from everything I’ve seen of the ’06 Fusion, it would be my car of choice.”

I just watched a show about Larry the Cable Guy the other night and learned that he and Kenny have a lot in common...Larry the Cable Guy is a fan of NASCAR, his favorite snack is Little Debbie's Swiss Cakes and Larry the Cable Guy just gave the Air Force permission to use "GET-R-DONE" as their official slogan! So the only piece of the puzzle missing is: Does Kenny like Larry the Cable Guy? If so, that would be cool to see Larry with him as a guest at a race! Already seems there is a lot the two have in common.  “I got to have dinner with him last year at Sonoma at the Grand Marshal’s party.  He sat at our table and was funnier than heck.  He is just a normal guy who is funny and wound up making good out of it.  He was enjoyable to talk to.”

Are there any Cup drivers you just don't get along with?  “Not really.”

Since we have had one (a rainout) in Atlanta, I’d like to know what does the team do while waiting for the rain to stop?  “Not much you can do.  You can’t work on the car because it is already impounded or out on the line.  You just sit around the truck, go crazy and watch TV.”

Was there a car you drove in NASCAR between the Sunny King Ford and the Red Baron?  “No.”
