Racing is his business.

Racing is his hobby.

Racing is his all-consuming passion.

Ken Schrader, driver the Motorcraft Ford Fusion for Wood Brothers Racing in NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series events, is a racer’s racer.  He is known as the driver who will race anything, any where, any time.

Racing is his business.  Racing is his hobby.  Racing is his all-consuming passion.

Schrader’s love of the sport takes him to short tracks all over the country where he races in late model, sprint and ARCA events.  He is also running a limited NASCAR Busch Series schedule this year, and has competed in several NASCAR Grand National races.

In addition, Ken has two short tracks of his own – I-55 Raceway, a 3/8 mile, high banked dirt oval in Pevely, Missouri and the Paducah International Raceway 3/8 mile, high banked dirt oval in Paducah, Kentucky.

This week is a particularly busy one for Schrader.

Tuesday night he is making a charity appearance at the new Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa.

Wednesday he will be racing on the 3/8ths mile dirt oval at HeartlandPark in Topeka, Kansas.

Then Thursday, after an appearance in Kansas City for his Motorcraft sponsor, Schrader will be competing in the Late Model Knoxville Nationals at Knoxville, Iowa.

Following the day’s NEXTEL Cup activities on Friday and Saturday Ken will go back to Knoxville Speedway.

And on Sunday he will of course be back at Kansas Speedway for the Banquet 400.

The Missouri native plans to run in approximately 120 races before the end of the 2006 season.

His heavy schedule on American short tracks gives Schrader a unique prospective on the state of short track racing in the country.

“I think short track racing is just like any other business.  If they are providing the service, they are doing okay.  There are a bunch of them getting weeded out right now.  It would be the same as restaurants or any other business.

“It’s all about the service.  The short tracks that are successful are getting the fans in and out, have a clean facility, providing a good show for the entertainment dollar and in the case of dirt tracks not totally ‘dusting you out’”.

“Most of the tracks I go to are good ones.  The fans are having fun, and the drivers are having fun.  It is good family entertainment.”
