SCHRADER STAYS 30TH IN POINTS AFTER 33RD

PLACE FINISH IN DOVER RACE

Ken Schrader, driver of the #21 Little Debbie Ford Fusion had a long day Dover International Speedway on Sunday.  He struggled with a car that would start a run loose, tighten up as the laps continued and wouldn’t turn.  And, when the checkered flag fell after 400 laps of competition on the high-banked cement mile, Schrader was 33rd, three laps behind the leaders.

Crew Chief David Hyder asked his Wood Brothers crew to make numerous adjustments, but nothing seemed to solve the problems Schrader was encountering on the track.

Although Ken ran in the mid-20’s more than once after starting 38th, he could not maintain the position.  The fast Delaware speedway is notorious for being tough on competitors who find themselves in cars not to their liking on a certain day.  Less than a quarter of the way through the event, Schrader lost a lap.  And, before the half-way mark he was two laps down.

More than once the driver radioed that his Ford wouldn’t turn.  “It’s loose when we start out, and then it gets tight, and it won’t turn in the middle.”

Matt Kenseth had a better day, grabbing the lead from teammate Jamie McMurray with only three laps to go to take the win.  Kevin Harvick was third.

Jimmie Johnson stayed on top of the point standings over Kenseth and Mark Martin.  Ken held on to 30th place even with the problems he encountered on Sunday.

Next week the NEXTEL Cup Series travels to Pocono, Pennsylvania to race on the 2.5 mile tri-oval in the Pocono Mountains.  The Pocono 500 will be broadcast live on FOX with coverage scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m.  The event can also be heard on the Motor Racing Network of radio affiliates.
