Ken Schrader:

“If I remember, it pays a lot more to win than it does for second, so that is the plan.”

Ken Schrader, driver of the #21 Wood Brothers NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Ford Fusion will be making his 16th start in the Budweiser Shootout this coming Saturday, February 11, at Daytona.  Only two other drivers have more starts in the Shootout than Schrader.  Bill Elliott leads the list with 20 and Mark Martin has 18.  Saturday’s event marks the first time the Fusion will be on the racetrack in competition.   The car has now been tested at Daytona and Las Vegas, and Schrader makes reference to those test sessions and talks about the Shootout.  Ken’s car will carry the United States Air Force colors on Saturday.

“The car is … you’ve got what you’ve got for a while.  When you have a car for several years you are able to tweak on it and fine tune on it.  But, from what we saw in testing at Daytona and Las Vegas, we’ve got no reason to think we are going to be anything but thrilled with the Fusion.

“As far as the race, it is wonderful because it is like getting a “150” before everybody else does.  You know, the 150’s are your best test sessions of the week.  And, if you are in the Shootout, you are fortunate enough to get one before everybody else does.

“We’ve had some decent runs in that race.  Even a couple of years ago we were right there.  I think we finished sixth or something, but we were right there with just a couple (laps) to go.

“If I remember, it pays a lot more to win than it does for second, so that is the plan.”
