No 21 Team Ready For Anything At Talladega

02 October 2007 NO. 21 TEAM READY FOR ANYTHING AT TALLADEGA SUPERSPEEDWAY

Wood Brothers/JTG driver Ken Schrader will be back behind the wheel of the 21 car for the fourth straight week as the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series returns to Talladega Superspeedway. This event will be a Car of Tomorrow (COT) race, marking the first time all year long that teams will use the newer chassis at a track more than a mile in length.

The primary sponsor for the team will be Motorcraft, marking the eighth of nine events in 2007 where the red and black Ford Parts Division will adorn the No. 21 car. The Wood Brothers/JTG team will be bringing COT Chassis C-5 to the 2.66-mile superspeedway. The team has previously used this chassis four times in 2007, including both Dover and New Hampshire events on the schedule.

The Wood Brothers/JTG team participated in the mandatory NASCAR test at Talladega two weeks ago and came away with some successful results, including one of the faster times listed in the draft on the time sheets.

This weekend's UAW-GM 500 will mark Schrader's 45th start at the Alabama track. In his previous 44 starts, Schrader has a record of one win, six top-fives and 12 top-10 finishes. He's led 155 laps of competition and owns two Bud Pole Awards—coming back-to-back in the 1998-1999 season.

As for the points, the No. 21 Wood Brothers/JTG team is still tucked safely inside the top-35 in owner points, with a 49 point advantage over the 36th place No. 22 team and is now 39 points away from the 34th spot, held down by Kyle Petty.

WHAT THE TEAM HAS TO SAY: Ken Schrader, Driver of the No. 21 Motorcraft Ford: "I think we'll be ready for anything this weekend at Talladega. This track is always kind of the great unknown, but we're bringing the new cars here and we'll have to see how they perform over 500 miles and inches apart. I'm really glad we did have a successful test here because it allowed us to work on how this car responds to the draft. There will still be a lot more homework on Friday before we qualify and see how this Motorcraft Ford is going to perform."

Michael McSwain, Crew Chief of the No. 21 Motorcraft Ford: "When we unload the car this weekend, we'll go right to the notebooks we compiled at the test. It was a good enough outing for us that we'll have a nice baseline setup waiting in the wings for our first few runs. Qualifying will be important, but we're going to continue our focus mainly on race setup to get this car in good shape for Kenny. I don't think anyone is really sure what to expect, but everybody is in the same boat. We'll have to keep our fingers crossed and stay out of trouble on Sunday and see where the chips fall."
