No. 18 Fastenal Dodge Ram Race Recap
The Quaker Steak and Lube 200 Presented by Circle K
Lowe’s Motor Speedway
Concord, NC. (May 18, 2007) – Fastenal Driver Ken Schrader made sure his other competitors knew he was a force to reckon with Friday night in the Quaker Steak and Lube 200. Schrader ticked off laps faster than the leaders much of race, running as high as fourth position in the final laps. Schrader battled as hard as he could to keep those behind him with fresher tires from passing his Fastenal Dodge, but was forced to give way to a tight race truck and finish 12th. It was the team’s fourth top-15 finish in six races.
No. 18 Fastenal Dodge Lowe’s Motor Speedway Race Recap
- Schrader was the first truck to qualify, not a fortunate draw when temperatures are hot thus making the track slick, on Friday afternoon and scored a 28th starting position.
- It did not take long for a caution to wave when an accident in turn two brought it out on lap nine. Schrader had worked his way into the 20th position. “It is very good,” said Schrader while under caution.
- He continued to make his way toward the front. By lap 35 Schrader was running in the 15th position.
- The second caution waved just three laps later for an accident in turn four. “I need to be a shade looser in the center, but not much,” said Schrader before coming down pit road. The Fastenal Racing Team changed all four tires, added fuel and made a slight wedge adjustment to the No. 18 Fastenal Dodge. He restarted in the 16th position.
- By lap 81 Schrader maneuvered his way into the 14th position and was turning laps as quick as the leaders. “Keep digging your times are getting faster,” encouraged an enthusiastic Crew Chief Jeff White from the team’s pit box.
- On lap 89 the fourth caution waved for another spin. “Get me in and get me out,” said Schrader as soon as the caution waved while running in 14th position. The Fastenal Racing team did just that. They cranked out a lighting fast pit stop changing right side tires, added fuel and gained 10 spots on pit road. He restarted in the fourth position. The BHR team was credited with the fastest time on pit road.
- Several laps after the restart an accident in turn two caused the caution to wave again for the fifth time. “I think it is coming back to me,” radioed Schrader under the caution. He restarted in the seventh position.
- The caution waved twice more in the final 10 laps of the event. “These short runs are killing me,” said Schrader. “The truck is way too tight on short runs.”
- Schrader came home in the 12th position. It was the team’s fourth top-15 finish this season.
Ron Hornaday Jr. won the The Quaker Steak and Lube 200 before an estimated crowd of 45,000. A.J. Allmendinger, Todd Bodine, Mark Martin and Ted Musgrave rounded out the top five finishers. The next event for the NCTS will be at Mansfield Motorsports Park on May 26, 2007 with Ken Schrader driving the Fastenal Dodge.
