Air Force celebrates 60th Anniversary heading to Dover

The United States Air Force celebrated its 60th Anniversary on Tuesday, September 18th, 2007 and the Wood Brothers/JTG race team will be sporting the familiar dark blue paint Air Force paint scheme this weekend for the running of the Dodge Dealers 400 at Dover International Speedway. Ken Schrader will drive the No. 21 car in his second race back since the team moved into the top-35 in owner points. Currently, they enjoy a 39-point advantage over 36th place and they remain 43 markers from the 34th spot. Following Friday’s qualifying session, Wood Brothers/JTG drivers and team owners will attend a private reception at the Dover Air Force base.

The Wood Brothers/JTG Racing team will once again use Chassis C-8 for this weekend’s event. It is the third straight week as a primary car for the team, having been used at both Bristol and Richmond previously.

Ken Schrader has 44 starts at the 1-mile track, dubbed the “Monster Mile”. He has compiled a record of one win, eight top-fives and 14 top-10 finishes. He’s also led 326 laps of competition.

There’s no doubt this will be an important weekend for a long-running sponsor of the Wood Brothers, as the United States Air Force is in their seventh consecutive year with the team. The team will be hoping for a great finish that will continue their upward climb in the owner point standings as the season’s final weeks tick off the clock. In support of this Air Force weekend, the No. 21 Wood Brothers/JTG souvenir hauler will be offering a 10% discount on all products for those with a Military ID.

According to team owner Eddie Wood, the relationship with the Air Force is a special one. “Our relationship with the United States Air Force in not only a blessing, but an honor. To represent one of the branches of the military cerainly means a lot to our organization as a whole and we’ve enjoyed hosting their personnel at the race tracks as part of their long-standing partnership with the Wood Brothers. We’re in our seventh consecutive year with the Air Force and our bond continues to grow. We wish them a happy and successful 60th Anniversary.”

Colonel Brian Madtes, Strategic Communications Director for Air Force Recruiting said, “The United States Air Force is proud to be associated with the No. 21 Wood Brothers/JTG Racing team. Despite the challenges America is facing around the world, having the Air Force symbol on the No. 21 car greatly contributes in showing that the Air Force is committed to keeping America safe. The entire No. 21 team is doing a superb job of helping us spread that word.”

WHAT THE TEAM HAS TO SAY:

Ken Schrader, driver of the No. 21 Air Force Ford:

“I’m very much looking forward to going to Dover and putting on a great show this weekend. I’ve had some special memories of this place and I think we have an opportunity to not only finish well, but continue to represent the Air Force in fine fashion. I know that the nearby Dover Air Force base will have a lot of personnel here for the race and I hope we can represent them with a solid effor t this weekend, both on and off the track.”

Micheal McSwain, Crew Chief of the No. 21 Air Force Ford:

“We’ve tweaked a few things on this car in the past couple of weeks and we’re bound to hit on something successful this weekend. We’ve manged to bring it home in one piece for the last two races and that allows us a chance to continue to get to know it and how it responds to changes. I like this race track a lot and I hope we can continue gaining some points this weekend on our competition. I’d like to wish the Air Force a happy 60th and I look forward to having them with us on Sunday in the pits.”
